1. Report the crime

Report loss or theft of money and personal possessions to the police within 24 hours of discovery and get a written report. If appropriate, you should also report the theft or loss to the Tour Representative or hotel management and ask for a written report.

2. Detail any forcible entry

If theft occurs as a result of break-in to your accommodation or vehicle ensure that details of the forcible entry is detailed in the police report.

3. Obtain proper documentation

If loss, theft, damage or baggage delay occurs while in the custody of a carrier obtain a written report from them. If in the custody of an airline you will need to obtain a Property Irregularity Report.

4. Retain all receipts

Retain travel documents, baggage tags, tickets and original receipts for replacing your passport and any items purchased in the event of delayed baggage.

5. Retain damaged items

Retain damaged items until any resulting claim has been finalised.
