Keep Receipts

Keep original receipts for all additional expenses, such as travel costs, incurred in replacing your passport. You will need these to make a successful claim for these expenses on your travel insurance.

  1. Report the loss or theft to the police immediately and get a written report. If the theft occurs from your accommodation report it to the accommodation manager and request a written report.
  2. Report the loss to the British FCO Consulate, Embassy or High Commission immediately.
    • Click here for location and contact details for worldwide FCO embassies.
    • The FCO will cancel your lost passport and issue you with replacement travel documents so you can travel back to the UK.
    • Declaring the loss of your passport - You will need to complete a lost or stolen declaration form (LS01) in order for your passport to be cancelled and prevent it being used fraudulently.
    • Obtaining a new passport - You will need to provide verification of your identity, a police report and pay a fee. You can claim this back from your travel insurance so long as you keep the receipt.
