High-spending Brits spend most on travel

It could be the unpredictable weather or that we’re a nation of wanderers but here in Britain we spend more than our European counterparts on our holidays.

We spend £1744 or €2579 on the average holiday, compared to €2025 in Germany, €2029 in Italy , €2006 in France and €1910 in Spain.

But the UK figure has dropped slightly compared to 2006 when the average holiday budget was €2795 € (£1,892).

Not only do we spend more we also travel more as almost half of us (47%) intend to travel more than once in 2007 – compared to a European average of just 23%.

British travellers use the internet more for booking their holidays more than our continental cousins – 51% against their 39% - and are increasingly worried about terrorism whilst on their travels.

Recent figures suggest that 39% of British travellers declared the threat of terrorist attacks would have an impact on their holiday period while just 25% said a threat of a natural disaster would impact their choice of destination, against a European average of 27%.

Overall it seems that European travellers are very resilient, but it's obvious there are issues on our minds and safety is now much more of a consideration, so start off in the best possible hands with a comprehensive travel insurance policy in place for you and your family.
